Boston Dynamics are at it again, showing off their latest achievements while at the same time terrifying some members of the public. Yesterday Boston Dynamics posted a video on Youtube showing their latest breakthrough, Atlas.
Atlas is one of the latest humanoid robots created by the tech giant but Atlas can do something we have not seen a robot do on two legs…run. Well, to be honest, it’s more like jogging, but Atlas is able to do so without power cables, and no hoists keeping it upright etc.

Some find the appearance of Atlas and other robots from Boston Dynamics to be disturbing because of the lack of faces. Many have made comparisons between Atlas and Terminators as well as the killer robots from I Robot and drawing comparisons to the malfunctioning Synthetics from the Alien movies.

Especially those Working Joes from ‘Alien: Isolation’ they’re scarier than the Alien!

The 4 foot 9 robot is able to jog on even and uneven terrain due to its ability to maintain balance, showcasing that the bot can perform multiple tasks at once and is able to maintain balance, move its arms, and walk/jog all at the same time. Atlas not only can jog, it can jump too.

Right now, Atlas is capable of lifting up to 24 lbs but there’s no doubt in time a larger version of Atlas would be developed that will be able to carry a payload in the hundreds of pounds meaning that it’s capable of carrying a human making the potential use for these bots to be used (I hope) by search and rescue crews, hospitals, and first responders.

See it in full jogging action!
