The Meg (review) made waves earlier this year bringing in $527.7 million at box offices worldwide. So, it’s no surprise that the second installment is circling and getting ready to swim into production. Producer Catherine Xujun Ying and star Jason Statham have confirmed that the movie is coming. Both Statham and Bingbing Li are returning for the sequel.

It’s still in the very early stages, but we’re working on it.” As for what the next movie will be about, Yung couldn’t reveal any specifics and only added, “We’re trying to keep it secret at this time.” With that being said, a giant prehistoric shark, or two, will more than likely be involved.” Ying has said.

The Meg was based on Steve Alten’s 1997 novel Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror. Alten has already published seven other books in the series meaning we could see a lot more of the franchise. But let’s be honest, who doesn’t love giant sharks and watching Statham kick ass?
We can expect The Meg 2 to swim in just in time for Shark Week 2020.
