Last year, director Ari Aster made his debut in the horror genre with Hereditary. Now Aster is back with his new film Midsommar and we have a first look courtesy of A24.
“The film will follow a young couple’s vacation to a Swedish village, where they discover the residents’ peculiar traditions and rituals. As one of the main characters carries pain from a recently deceased loved one, these rituals become cloaked in a sense of dread.”
Jack Reynor, Will Poulter, Florence Pugh, Vilhem Blomgren, Ellora Torchia William Jackson Harper, and Archie Madekwe star in Midsommar which begins principal photography this August in Hungary.
In the film, “Pugh and Reynor will play a couple that travels to Sweden to visit their friend’s rural hometown for its fabled mid-summer festival. What begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult.”
A24 will release Midsommar in theaters on August 9, 2019.
