Larry (Keir O’Donnell); a neurotic, extremely germophobic man, on the road to a wedding he has no desire to attend, books a room at the seedy Pink Motel and Lounge where the establishments bartender cum receptionist Chester (Hayes MacArthur) continuously engages him in bouts of April Fools ballbustery. Anyway, Larry eventually checks in and heads to his room to have a wank at photos of the bride to be (which someone films from the ventilation duct above). You see, our hero had a past relationship with the bride…a rather bad one…and while Chester fucks with him, he in turn trolls the bride’s wedding website incessantly under an online alias.
Things escalate….especially after Larry’s sister, Rachel (Jessica McNamee), arrives…and Chester’s nonsense grows ever more bizarre and dangerous, but at the same time he seems like a likable enough dude; just a bit much to take…but looks can be deceiving and before long our protagonist’s must decide what is real and what is a prank, and what consequences are to be faced for Chester’s actions!
Let me tell you who isn’t just fucking with you…your’s cruelly when I say I’m Just F*cking With You is the best Into the Dark feature yet, and I have really loved each and every entry! What makes this entry in the series so great? Well, the structure of the story for one thing; to wit Director Adam Mason along with writing duo Gregg Zehenter and Scott Barkan have delivered a fright flick that is suspenseful, funny, and very entertaining while seriously messing with the viewer in terms of pacing. This baby is a slow burn character piece that goes on just long enough in that vein to make the audience wonder if they have been pranked with this being an advertised fright flick and then things go completely off the rails in the best way possible!
Of course a film is only as good as it’s cast, and this one has a frickin’ doozy! Keir O’Donnell is fantastic as our everyman, basket case of a hero, as is Jessica McNamee as his free-spirit sister…but make no mistake; this picture belongs to Hayes MacArthur as the jovial prankster Chester; he is equal parts personable and batshit insane, often at the same time, and he is absolutely awesome to watch in action…to say more would throw us into spoiler territory, but trust me; you lot will dig on Chester to the Nth degree!
If there is a negative it’s that these shits don’t get sequels, and I want to enter this universe again! There’s so much more insanity some of these characters could provide and this horror hound is panting for more!
If you are a fan of the Into the Dark series; I think I’m Just F*cking With You will become one of your all time favs, and if you haven’t tries the series yet this would be the one I’d recommend to start with! Highly recommended my creeps!
