Bragi Schut‘s script, The Last Voyage of the Demeter, has been passed around for years. There have been multiple directors attached however, the film never comes to life, but that may be about to change. THR reported today that The Autopsy of Jane Doe and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark director André Øverdal is currently in talks to helm the film for Amblin.
Demeter was the name of the ship that brought Dracula from Transylvania to London in Bram Stoker’s classic Dracula. In the 1897 novel, the Demeter washes up on the English shore, “tattered and broken, with one mad survivor.”
The script, written in 2002 by Schut (Season of the Witch) tells the tale of that journey and the crew that was slaughtered one by one by its mysterious passenger.
Bradley Fischer, Arnold Messer, and Mike Medavoy are set to produce the film.
