True crime and serial killers have never been more popular than they are right now. Series and films continue to be released based on real killers. One film in development for 2020 is based on the notorious Green River Killer, Gary Ridgway.
According to IMDb, “Good Omens” actor Michael Sheen will star, write, direct and produce the project along with Get Out producers Raymond Mansfield and Keith Goldberg, and Mike Richardson (Hellboy). The film will be executive produced by Shaun Redick (Get Out).
Simply titled Green River Killer, the film centers on Gary Ridgway who took the lives of at least 49 teenage girls and women, many who were prostitutes, in the state of Washington during the 1980s and 1990s. He was labeled The Green River Killer due to the fact that he often disposed of his victim’s bodies near or in the Green River. Thanks to DNA evidence he was arrested in 2001. In 2013 Ridgeway admitted that he killed upwards of 80 women. One of the most disturbing things about Ridgway’s crimes is that he was also a necrophiliac.
Sheen currently stars as Dr. Martin Whitly, a serial killer known as “The Surgeon,” on Fox’s series “Prodigal Son.” Tom Payne (“The Walking Dead”) stars as Whitley’s son Malcolm, one of the best criminal profilers in the world. Malcolm aids the NYPD with cases while dealing with his severe childhood trauma. He reluctantly seeks help from his dad to solve crimes. Much of the first season is currently available on Hulu and I highly recommend checking it out.
