Just because Bruce Campbell (interview) has retired from his role as Ash Williams doesn’t mean that we have seen the last of the Evil Dead franchise.

It was announced several months ago that a new Evil Dead movie is in the works, one that will see a still-unnamed young unnamed filmmaker in the director’s chair.

During a Q&A at the Fan Expo in Vancouver last weekend Campbell teased that the new installment may begin filming this year.

We’re producing more Evil Dead movies. Maybe one later this year. Sam Raimi has hand picked the next guy to make another creepy Evil Dead. It just won’t have Ash. Yeah, it’s cool. There are more stories to tell, sir.”

While we all wish Campbell would come out of retirement, I am happy to see a new Evil Dead movie. I do wonder if it is a true sequel or if it will more resemble the “Ash vs Evil Dead” series or Fede Alvarez’s 2013 reboot. Personally, I would be happy with any of those.
