A few days ago, I was introduced to the Splatter Club. I thoroughly enjoyed reading K. Trap Jones’ short story collection Welcome to the Splatter Club. This book is a collection of fantastic short stories written by authors who write without holding back and without censoring the stories they want to tell.

When reading this book, I got an “Are You Afraid of the Dark” feel. No, the stories are not for children…definitely not for children. They are not simplistic or predictable or anything like that. What I mean is that it has the feel of a bunch of friends sitting around a camp fire telling their horror stories to each other and trying to out-scare one another. I love it! It is fun, weird, violent, sex-filled and extreme. Honestly, it’s just a great, fun escape into splattering horror.

These stories are not for everyone. They are extremely violent and dark. They are sex and drug-filled. They are uncomfortable and always interesting. Jones has compiled a collection of stories that work so well together because, although they are very different in plot and characters, they share the same feel. These stories really do feel, to me, like they were written by a bunch of friends who love horror. One thing that is never lacking in this collection is entertainment. With each story being so different, there is never a lull. Each member brings their own flavor of horror and wickedness into the collection and each member is an asset to the book.

I recommend Welcome to the Splatter Club to anyone who wants to find a perfect mix of fun and darkness. The stories are well written and unique.  Personally, I would love to read more from any/all of these authors. You will not find another collection like this anywhere and I urge you to sneak through the woods, find the fire these authors are sitting around, and enjoy the horror of The Splatter Club.
