Following last year’s release of Howling Village, Takashi Shimizu, creator of both The Grudge franchise and Ju-on, is back with a new Japanese horror film that takes us to Aokigahara, in Suicide Forest Village. The new trailer is here, and it teases a dark, terrifying, supernatural tale.

The film draws inspiration from the legends and rumors surrounding Japan’s infamous forest located at  the base of Mt. Fuji where many go to commit suicide. It is rumored to be haunted by the ghosts of those who died.

In the film, written by Shimizu and Daisuke Hoska, “a mysterious box arrived and a curse began to spread all over. The source of the box is ‘Jukai Village’, hidden in a see of trees in the Jukai Forest. It’s said that the land holds a grudge against trespassers and anyone that enters the land. Once you enter , you have no hope of escaping there with your life.

The cast includes Yumi Adachi, Hideko Hara, Haruka Kudo, Fûju Kamio, and Jun Kunimura.

Suicide Forest Village was released in Japan on Febuary 5, 2021.
