Rob Zombie, who brought us The Devil’s Rejects, House of 1000 Corpses, and 3 From Hell, is back with his latest project, a new movie based on the iconic series “The Munsters,” from Universal Pictures. It’s not a huge shock, after all, Zombie has made it clear over the years that he’s a big fan of the series.
His wife Sheri Moon Zombie has been cast in the lead role as Lily Minster. She’s always the lead in his movies. Jeff Daniel Phillips, who is also a Zombie movie regular, will play Herman. Daniel Roebuck and Richard Brake, also frequent fixtures in Zombie’s films, are also set to star along with Jorge Carcia (Lost) and Cassandra Peterson (aka Elvira).
The original series ran from 1064 to 1966 and was created by Ed Haas and Norm Liebmann. The series, both a satire of horror movies of the day and a wholesome family comedy, depicts a family of monsters as they lived out their lives. Fred Gwynne starred as Frankenstein’s monster, father, and husband Herman Munster. Yvonne De Carlo played Lily, the vampiric mother. Grandpa, an over the hill Dracula, was played by Al Lewis. Butch Patrick starred as the Munster’s young son, a werewolf named Eddie.
There’s no word yet about the plot of Zombie’s version or how close the movie will be to the series, but we’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, you can watch the entire original series on Netflix or on Peacock for free.
