One of the most highly anticipated upcoming horror movies is Universal Monsters’ Renfield, starring Nicolas Cage as Dracula. Today, we’ve got your first glimpse of Cage, via People, in a red suit, sporting slicked-backed black hair, and a lot of bling, looking a bit like Christopher Lee in his iconic role as the blood-sucker in Hammer Films.
Nicolas Cage will bear his fangs as the legendary Count Dracula, in the movie that is based on an original idea by “The Walking Dead” creator Robert Kirkman. Chris McKay (The Tomorrow War) is directing the movie, with Nicholas Hoult (Warm Bodies, Mad Max: Fury Road) playing the title role of Renfield, Dracula’s henchman.
Described as a “modern-day adventure story that is comedic in tone,” the film centers on Renfield (Hoult), who has grown sick and tired of his centuries as Dracula’s (Cage) lackey. The henchman finds a new lease on life and maybe even redemption when he falls for the feisty, no-nonsense cop Rebecca Quincy (Awkwafina).
Ben Schwartz, Adrian Martinez, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and Bess Rouss co-star in Renfield, written by Ryan Ridley (“Rick and Morty”), which Cage has stated is influenced by horror films including Ringu and James Wan’s Malignant.
The bad news is, it will be a while before we get to see Cage in action, Renfield will not open in theaters until April 14, 2023.
