Forget trust falls and active listening. When your relationship is on the rocks, nothing tests you quite like an ancient demon bear brandishing a deadly blade. Breaking Glass Pictures has officially unleashed SMOKEE, a delightfully unhinged new horror-comedy from writer-director Whit Whitman.

High Hopes and High Body Counts

The film follows a group of troubled couples expecting a quiet weekend of relationship counseling, herbal relaxation, and spiritual bonding. Instead, a potent cocktail of cannabis-fueled rituals, petty grievances, and questionable choices summons Smokee. He’s a knife-wielding demon bear with zero patience for poor communication skills. The furry terror begins slicing through the guest list. And long-buried secrets, bitter betrayals, and deep-seated grudges spill out alongside plenty of blood. The peaceful retreat soon turns into a chaotic fight for survival.

A Handmade Masterclass in Stoner Slaughters

While channeling the DNA of genre favorites like Evil Dead II and Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, SMOKEE fuses stoner humor with creature-feature mayhem.

Whitman (Unnatural) described the film as a passion project built on raw imagination. Also, he noted that the movie embraces its handmade, offbeat personality with total commitment.

“Smokee is the kind of movie I love making: weird, funny, handmade, and completely committed to its own personality. We made it with limited resources but a lot of imagination,” said writer-director Whit Whitman. “I chose Breaking Glass because they understand independent filmmakers and offbeat genre movies. They saw what made Smokee different and felt like the right team to help it find its audience.”

Rich Wolff, CEO of Breaking Glass Pictures, echoed that enthusiasm, praising the project as precisely the kind of hilarious, blood-soaked, and utterly unpredictable indie horror that genre fans crave.

Smokee is exactly the kind of unique independent genre film we love,” said Rich Wolff, CEO of Breaking Glass Pictures. “It’s funny, bloody and completely unpredictable.”

Horror Royalty Meets a Stacked Ensemble

Produced by Little Monsters Entertainment alongside Rich Wolff, Susan Helfrich, and Whit Whitman, SMOKEE boasts an eclectic cast. It’s led by horror icon Lynn Lowry (The Crazies, Shivers). Joining Lowry in the furry crosshairs are Alexis “Lexi” Andrews, Timothy Pogue, Elley Ringo, Billy Crank, Anne-Marie Olsen, Juan Szilagyi, Joshua M. Hancock, and a sprawling ensemble ready to face the blade.

Whether you are happily coupled up or looking for a reason to avoid group therapy forever, SMOKEE offers a wildly entertaining reminder that bad communication can truly be murder. Watch it now for free on Fawesome.
