The world of Neil Gaiman‘s Sandman is about to get a bit spookier (and slightly more teenage) with the arrival of “Dead Boy Detectives.” This new Netflix series follows two deceased British teens, Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri), who opt to forgo the afterlife and instead dedicate themselves to the peculiar job title – detectives for the undead.
A First Look
A recently released teaser trailer offers a glimpse into the “Dead Boy Detective Agency,” showcasing the boys’ enthusiasm for solving ghostly mysteries, even if it means occasionally dodging a very unimpressed-looking Death (played by Kirby Howell-Baptiste, reprising her role from the “Sandman” series, which has been renewed.
More than just a lighthearted romp with the supernatural, the series promises to delve deeper. The official synopsis describes “Dead Boy Detectives” as a ghost story that explores “loss, grief, and death” through the unique perspective of these deceased teenagers and their very much alive friend, Crystal Palace (Kassius Nelson).
A Talented Cast
Developed by Steve Yockey, the creative mind behind HBO Max’s dark comedy “The Flight Attendant,” the series boasts a talented cast. Fans of “Doom Patrol” might recognize Ruth Connell reprising her role as the Night Nurse alongside newcomers like Briana Cuoco (Jenny the Butcher), Yutu Kitamura (Niko), and Max Jenkins (Kingham).
Coming Soon
While Charles and Edwin first appeared in issue #15 of “The Sandman” comic book back in 1991, this Netflix series marks their first live-action adventure. With a premiere date set for April 25th, 2024, “Dead Boy Detectives” offers a chilling new chapter in the Sandman universe, promising to explore death, friendship, and the supernatural with a dash of dark humor.
