Buckle up, disaster movie fans! Director Ric Roman Waugh has announced that filming has begun for Greenland: Migration.
Initially announced in 2021, the sequel to the hit 2020 disaster flick Greenland is officially coming.

Waugh took to social media to share news and images from the first film. The post confirms the return of series lead Gerard Butler and his on-screen wife, played by Morena Baccarin. Writer Chris Sparling, who penned the original Greenland script, returns for the new chapter.

The original film followed John Garrity (Butler) and his family as they fought for survival in the face of a planet-killing comet. With humanity facing extinction, the Garritys receive a government message granting them access to a secure shelter in Greenland. The family’s desperate journey to reach safety is filled with obstacles. The film ends in a tense cliffhanger that hints at a new struggle – rebuilding the world.

Greenland: Migration picks up where the first film left off. As the title suggests, the Garrity family will leave their sanctuary to face the challenges of a new world. It’s safe to assume that rebuilding civilization won’t be a walk in the park.

Migration is another collaboration between director Waugh and Butler. They also collaborated on films like Angel Has Fallen and Kandahar. Greenland: Migration promises to deliver the same pulse-pounding thrills we’ve come to expect from the former stuntman turned director.

Butler will also serve as a producer on the film alongside his G-BASE Film Production company.

The sequel promises a new struggle for survival and is poised to be a worthy follow-up to the original. While no release date has been announced, you can expect it to land in 2025. Stay tuned for further updates. In the meantime, here’s a look back at the trailer for the first film. If you haven’t seen it or want to rewatch Greenland, you can find it on Max, Prime Video, and Apple TV.
