Fans of HBO’s hit series “The Last of Us” can rejoice! Co-creator Neil Druckmann has revealed major news: filming has wrapped on season 2 in Vancouver, Canada.

Druckmann took to Instagram to share a photo, confirming his directorial role and expressing his enthusiasm. He wrote, “My time in Vancouver has come to an end. I’ve had a wonderful time collaborating with some incredibly talented and kind cast and crew. Can’t wait for y’all to see what we’re cooking!”

While season 1 followed the first game, season 2 promises to delve deeper into the evolving relationship between Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey).

While season 1 had nine episodes, season 2 will feature seven. The creators Druckmann and Craig Mazin explained this by saying the story from “The Last of Us Part II” is much denser than the first game. They needed “natural breakpoints” to tell the story across seasons.

Druckmann’s comments suggest the show might explore original content beyond the games, following the trend established in season 1. Season 2 will undoubtedly focus on “The Last of Us Part II.” Still, the creators have hinted this story might span multiple seasons, potentially necessitating seasons 3 and 4 to explore the narrative entirely.

Last we reported, we shared that  Emmy Award-winning actor Jeffrey Wright has been cast as Isaac, a pivotal character from “The Last of Us Part Two.” Wright will portray this “quietly powerful leader” navigating the complexities of a war-torn world. The actor has a long history of incredible performances in series like “Westworld” and films like The Batman and American Fiction.

The Last of Us” season 2 is expected to premiere sometime in 2025. In the meantime, you can catch up on season 1 streaming on HBO Max.
