“Dexter” fans, rejoice! San Diego Comic-Con brought some exciting news about the upcoming “Dexter” series, including that Hall is returning to reprise his roles in more than one of them.
Dexter: Original Sin
The prequel series, whose first look we shared earlier this month, is set in 1990s Miami and is on track for a December 2024 premiere. This time, Michael C. Hall will lend his voice as the “inner voice” of a younger Dexter, played by Patrick Gibson. A taste of the show’s opening sequence, complete with Hall’s narration, has already been released and garnered over 550,000 views in just 12 hours!
The prequel explores Dexter’s formative years in Miami, growing up in the early 1990s. It’s a time when he grapples with his dark urges while confiding in his father figure, Harry (Christan Slater). Harry, a homicide detective, instills Dexter’s infamous “Code” – a set of rules guiding him to target and eliminate those who escape the justice system.
Molly Brown stars as Debra Morgan, Dexter’s beloved sister. Sarah Michelle Gellar will play CSI Chief Tanya Martin, and Patrick Dempsey (Thanksgiving) stars as Aaron Spencer, Captain of the Miami Metro Homicide.
The cast also includes Joe Pantoliano (“Chucky”), Brittany Allen (What Keeps You Alive), Randy Gonzalez (Bloodline), Aaron Jennings (Pure Genius), Raquel Justice (One Day at a Time), Jasper Lewis (V/H/S), Carlo Mendez (The Bay), Isaac Gonzalez Rossi (That’s Amor) and Roberto Sanchez (Palm Royale). James Martinez plays Angel Batista.
Clyde Phillips, the original showrunner of “Dexter,” will also serve as showrunner for the prequel, whose first season will feature ten episodes. Michael C. Hall, who originally played Dexter, will executive produce.
Dexter: New Blood
“Dexter: New Blood,” which premiered in 2021, finds Dexter living a new life under a new name. But no matter how hard you try, your past will catch up to you, and that’s precisely what happens when Dexter’s son, Harrison (Jack Alcott), finally hunts him down. The finale shocked fans, but they still want more. And they are about to get it.
The second season will reportedly focus on Harrison Morgan following his escape to New York after season one’s finale. The story will explore Harrison’s struggle with his violent urges, mirroring his father’s dark passenger.
Dexter: Resurrection
The biggest surprise came in the form of a brand new sequel series, “Dexter: Resurrection.” Yes, you read that right! Michael C. Hall is officially reprising his role as Dexter Morgan. While details are scarce, the title suggests the events will pick up after Dexter’s apparent demise in “Dexter: New Blood,” which has been renewed for a second season. But with the surprise news that Hall will be returning, the question remains if it will be in the form of flashbacks or if he will somehow survive his son’s attack. We’ll have to wait until 2025 to find out.
Which of the three series are you most looking forward to? Let you know in the comments.
