Get ready for another chilling descent into horror with NEON’s movie Cuckoo, directed by the acclaimed filmmaker Tilman Singer (Luz).
The movie follows 17-year-old Gretchen (Hunter Schafer, “Euphoria”) on a seemingly idyllic family vacation. Joining her father and his new family at a luxurious resort nestled in the German Alps, Gretchen anticipates a relaxing getaway. However, her dreams of tranquility quickly dissipate. Strange noises echo through the night, and disturbing visions plague her. As the facade of a perfect vacation crumbles, Gretchen uncovers a dark secret lurking beneath the resort’s pristine surface.
NEON hints at a monstrous entity, a nightmarish bird-like creature with a horrifying scream. This grotesque element adds a layer of mystery to the film, hinting at a story that goes beyond a typical monster movie.
Cuckoo promises to be more than jump scares. The film explores psychological horror, exploring the unsettling connection between the monstrous creature and the cuckoo bird’s parasitic behavior. Schafer’s character may face a physical threat and a profound psychological battle.
Cuckoo was screened at the prestigious Berlin Film Festival and the SXSW Film Festival. The horror film will be released on Digital on September 17 and Blu-ray on October 22.
