Are you into gore but also like cute things? Do you prefer cats over unicorns? Do you wish you had a hoverboard with a mouth like a sailor? Or like melancholic AI? Well, have I got the game for you! Angry Demon Studio and Wired Productions’ hack-and-slash meets Tony Hawk Pro Skater and Ratchet and Clank will have something for you! Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Gori: Cuddly Carnage.

Gori is a Cat created by Cool-Toyz Inc. as an “Ultra-pet”, a pet that does not grow old, needs to be fed, or needs bathroom breaks. His owner Professor Y was kidnapped by the Adorable Army who is hellbent on destroying human life on Earth. Armed with his wisecracking sentient hoverboard sidekick F.R.A.N.K. and aided by the gloomy AI CH1-P, Gori sets off on a journey of blood.

Now, onto the game itself! The controls for Gori: Cuddly Carnage are easy to learn thanks to the aid of a “move list” that’s in the pause menu so you can see what combos you can make using F.R.A.N.K.

The game’s art is one of the selling points for me. The bright colorful world with a twisted tone of the enemy design goes hand in hand, and if you look closely, you’ll see some dark things in the bright world. The only complaint I have about the art is how intense the colors are as they appear oversaturated.

I love the voiceover work! I love how some of the villains in the game can full-out swear but F.R.A.N.K. has a “child-friendly mode” activated so when they try to swear it’s bleeped out. You can turn off the bleeps by purchasing that option at an upgrade booth with money you collected from killing enemies, but personally, I think it’s funnier keeping F.R.A.N.K. the way they are.

When it comes to gameplay for Gori: Cuddly Carnage, you explore levels defeating enemies, and finding parts to keys, that’s pretty much it BUT the levels have challenges you can complete to earn more, resulting in you having to go back to levels if you want to achieve higher combos to meet requirements, as well as replaying levels on higher difficulty. You are also able to unlock bonus levels to challenge yourself.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage has early 2000s vibes when it comes to content within the game, a fun playstyle, funny dialogue, an interesting story, and of course an adorable lead character. If you like cute things but also get down with the sticky grittyness of gore, this is the game for you! On my scale of 1-10, it’s a 9.5!

Gori: Cuddly Carnage is out now for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
