It’s been roughly two decades since Wes Craven lent his producing touch to the 2006 horror flick The Breed. A fresh remake is clawing its way onto the scene with a decidedly intriguing twist. Last summer brought whispers of a The Breed reboot. Now, the official trailer for the sequel, A Breed Apart, has dropped, offering a taste of the horrors that await.
Forget the typical humans-stranded-on-an-island-hunted-by-dogs scenario you might expect. Lionsgate’s A Breed Apart bills itself as “a harrowing tale of terror.” The trailer showcases instances of humans facing off with canines and moments of levity. However, if you’re particularly sensitive about our furry friends in peril, you might want to steer clear of this one.
Virginia Gardner and her fellow Fall co-star, Grace Caroline Currey. They are joined by Page Kennedy (The Meg). The film is helmed by brothers Griff and Nathan Furst, who are putting their unique spin on the creature feature.
A Tale of Terror Unleashed
A Breed Apart throws us into the world of Violet, played by Gardner. She’s a social media influencer who jumps at the chance to attend a weekend getaway on a private island, rubbing shoulders with some of the biggest names in the online world. Violet envisions a weekend of unparalleled viral content opportunities. However, her aspirations for internet fame quickly morph into a terrifying fight for survival.
The influencers soon discover they’re not just there for a glamorous retreat. Instead, they become unwilling participants in their horrific reality show. The island is home to a pack of legendary, man-eating dogs, and the guests are pitted against each other in a gruesome game: capture the monstrous canines before they become the dogs’ next meal.
A Breed Apart is not just about surviving the beasts; it’s about the influencers’ desperate and likely ridiculous attempts to outsmart and capture these deadly animals for their own survival. Combined with the promise of ” harrowing” terror, this meta approach suggests a film that’s not afraid to poke fun at the genre while still delivering on the scares and suspense.
