Just when you thought the cast of “Dexter: Resurrection” couldn’t get any hotter, they’re adding some serious firepower to its second season. Bokeem Woodbine (Spider-Man: Homecoming) and Nona Parker Johnson (Fear the Walking Dead) have officially signed on as series regulars, ensuring that Dexter’s stay in New York remains anything but a vacation.

Woodbine is set to play Captain Mixon, the NYPD’s absolute bulldog of a homicide captain. Joining him is Nona Parker Johnson as Fiona Mixon. She is a training officer, reportedly slated to be Dexter’s estranged son Harrison’s new love interest. Nothing says “romance” like dating the daughter of the man hunting your serial-killer father.

The Story So Far: A Coma, a Kid, and a Killer

The first season of Resurrection didn’t pull any punches. Picking up just weeks after Harrison shot his dear old dad, the show saw Dexter awaken from a coma only to find his son had vanished into thin air. Realizing he’s essentially the world’s worst influence, Dexter tracked Harrison to New York City to make amends.

But “making things right” is difficult when you’re a walking crime scene. With Angel Batista hot on his trail and the bright lights of NYC exposing every shadow, Dexter and Harrison have spent the season navigating their shared darkness. By the finale, it became clear that in the city that never sleeps, the only way to survive the night is to work together.

A Cast That’s Literally Killer

Woodbine and Johnson are joining a roster that reads like a genre fan’s fever dream. Already announced cast members include Michael C. Hall: The man, the myth, the Dark Passenger himself. Jack Alcott is returning as the perpetually conflicted Harrison. Uma Thurman returns to the fray as Charley. Brian Cox is bringing gravitas to the role of “The New York Ripper.” And last, but not least, is new cast member Dan Stevens, who is dialing up the creep factor as “The Five Borough Killer.”

A Ratings Juggernaut

The revival has been a massive win for the network. Premiering last July to 4.4 million multiplatform viewers in its first week, it was a no-brainer for an October renewal. Showrunner Clyde Phillips is back at the helm. The series is leaning hard into the “darkness and DNA” themes that made the original a classic.

What We Know About Season 2

Not much yet. The plot is currently under tighter security than a crime scene in Dexter’s basement. But with a “bulldog” like Bokeem Woodbine on the case, the pressure is officially on.

Season one of “Dexter: Resurrection” is available now to binge on Paramount+.
