If you’ve been keeping a spreadsheet of who isn’t in the next Marvel movie, you can officially cross another name off the list. Kathryn Newton has confirmed that Cassie Lang is returning for Avengers: Doomsday, joining what appears to be roughly half of the current SAG-AFTRA membership in a singular film.
Newton, seen dodging multiversal threats in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, revealed her return on Instagram with a move straight out of the Marvel spoiler-prevention handbook. She unboxed a director’s chair featuring her name and the film’s logo, jokingly noting that the chair was “tiny because Cassie Lang gets tiny.”
The Ant in the Room
While the social media reveal was cute, the “ant” was arguably already out of the bag. The footage Marvel debuted at CinemaCon yesterday featured a blink-and-you’ ll-miss-it shot of Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) giving his daughter a protective forehead kiss. It seems the Lang family dynamic will be front and center as they face off against the MCU’s new big bad: Doctor Doom, played by a familiar face in Robert Downey Jr.
A Very Crowded Clubhouse
Cassie won’t exactly be lonely on set. The Russo Brothers—the duo responsible for the “on-your-left” chaos of Endgame—are back in the director’s chairs, and they’ve invited everyone back to the playground. The confirmed (and heavily rumored) roster includes: Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), and Black Panther (Letitia Wright). Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) is featured as well as Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart), Magneto (Ian McKellen), and the card-throwing Gambit (Channing Tatum).
The Evolution of Cassie
Newton is the third actress to step into Cassie’s shrinking shoes, following Abby Ryder Fortson’s childhood portrayal and Emma Fuhrmann’s brief but emotional turn in Endgame. Since her Marvel debut, Newton has been busy cementing her “genre queen” status with roles in Lisa Frankenstein, Griffin in Summer, and the recently released Ready or Not 2: Here I Come.
With the Russos at the helm and a cast list long enough to require its own zip code, Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be the cinematic event of 2026. Whether Cassie stays small or goes giant, she’s clearly going to have her hands full.
