Maika Monroe is returning to the horror genre in the highly anticipated upcoming thriller Victorian Psycho.
This week, the 19th-century psychological horror movie officially received its “R” rating from the MPAA. The film earned this rating for strong bloody violence and brief sexual material.
Dark Secrets
Based on the novel by Virginia Feito, the plot follows an eccentric governess at a remote gothic manor. Strange occurrences at the estate quickly stir suspicion that she is not what she seems, that she is, in reality, a 19th-century serial killer.
Monroe admitted to The Hollywood Reporter that the terrifying role was a massive departure from her own life. Margaret Qualley was previously cast in the role before Monroe took over.
An Impressive Cast and Crew
This is not the first time that Monroe has entered the darkness. She is a genre maystay. You will know her from her roles in films like Longlegs, It Follows, The Guest, and The Watcher.
The star-studded cast includes Thomasin McKenzie (Last Night in Soho), Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter franchise), Evie Templeton (Wednesday season 2), Ruth Wilson (Luther), Amy De Bruhn (Vikings), and Jacobi Jupe (Hamnet).
Author Virginia Feito wrote the book and adapted the screenplay herself. Director Zachary Wigon helmed the film, while Longlegs producer Dan Kagan served as producer on the feature.
A Summer Premiere
Get ready for a dark film filled with mystery and danger when it is unleashed in theaters on September 25. A trailer should be released soon. We’ll update you when we know more.
