‘ Rife with secrets, seduction, and survival, the first trailer for Strung is a stark reminder to be careful what you wish for—especially if your dreams come with a side of psychological warfare.
The Peacock original thriller brings together an unexpected duo of Hollywood heavyweights: mastery-of-melodrama Tyler Perry and horror maestro Jason Blum.
Strings, Secrets, and Sanity
In the film, Chloe Bailey plays a talented violinist who scores a gig tutoring the gifted daughter of an influential, enigmatic, and obscenely wealthy family. But as she gets pulled into their opulent world, the sweet music turns into a nightmare. Unsettling secrets surface, forcing her to question her safety, her ambition, and her actual sanity. Think Whiplash meets Get Out, but with higher couture and heavier tension.
The movie features a powerhouse cast, including Chloe Bailey (Swarm), Lynn Whitfield (Greenleaf), and Lucien Laviscount (Emily in Paris). Anna Diop (Us) and Coco Jones (Bel-Air) round out the cast.
An Unexpected Master of Suspense
Behind the camera is Malcolm D. Lee, a director best known for comedies like The Best Man and Girls Trip. If you’re wondering how a comedy veteran handles a nerve-shredding thriller, Lee promises he’s leaning all the way into the chaos. The script was penned by veteran horror scribe Alan B. McElroy (Wrong Turn).
“The countless times I reacted out loud while reading the script’s twists and turns motivated me to put my own stamp on this evergreen genre,” Lee said. “Strung draws you in with a combination of lush visuals, captivating performances, and a riveting soundtrack that captivates viewers — that is, if your heart and nerves can withstand the suspense.”
The film is produced by Peachtree & Vine and Blumhouse in association with Blackmaled Productions.
Before it hits your living room screen this summer, Strung will make its world premiere at the American Black Film Festival in Miami Beach on May 27. Grab your popcorn and maybe a stress ball; it hits Peacock on June 26.
