Move over, Hollywood, because filmmaker Curry Barker is not sleeping! While his psychological horror Obsession is busy crushing it in theaters, the horror mastermind has already wrapped production on his next masterpiece: Anything But Ghosts.
Get ready for a wild ride, because this one sounds like an absolute blast!
The Hilarious, Terrifying Premise
Imagine two absolutely shameless con artist ghost hunters. They make a living swindling single dads and gullible old women. They are actually fantastic at the grift, utilizing special rigs to make tables shake and lights flicker. They put on a spectacular fake show. That is, until they accidentally cross paths with a very real, very dangerous dark entity.
Barker is directing from a script he co-wrote with his frequent partner-in-crime, Cooper Tomlinson. The dynamic Milk & Serial duo will also star as the two fraudulent ghost busters.
Spooky But Funny
Barker promises this project is a massive pivot from Obsession. The concept naturally leans heavily into comedy because the protagonists are such total phonies.
It is basically Barker and Tomlinson doing what they do best. However, the horror remains deeply rooted in a gritty, realistic setting. We are getting real ghosts invading a world that fundamentally does not believe in them.
An Absolute All-Star Cast
The lineup for this supernatural flick is completely stacked! “Breaking Bad” legend Aaron Paul is joining the chaos. Jurassic World’s Bryce Dallas Howard is also locked in. To top it off, horror royalty Violet McGraw from M3GAN will co-star.
The Powerhouse Producers
The behind-the-scenes team is a literal horror dream team. Jason Blum is producing under his iconic Blumhouse banner. Roy Lee and Steven Schneider are producing for Spooky Pictures. Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath are also on board, representing Divide/Conquer. Barker and Tomlinson executive-produce That’s a Bad Idea. Ben Ross joins them for Image Nation.
If that isn’t enough excitement, Barker is also currently developing a highly anticipated Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot for A24! And promises it will be darker and better than the shitty reboots we’ve gotten. With the young filmmaker’s talent, we’ve got high hopes. Be sure to check out Obsession, now in theaters.
