Genre favorite Kyle Gallner is officially reuniting with Strange Darling director JT Mollner for Sony Pictures’ upcoming horror film, Skeletons. If that duo isn’t enough to get your blood pumping, Academy Award winner Brie Larson is already locked in to star.
Oh, and J.J. Abrams is producing. Talk about a powerhouse lineup!
A Terrifyingly Twisted Family Secret
Do not expect a typical jump-scare fest. Skeletons is being described as a modern, high-concept take on the classic creature feature. The story unfolds entirely from the perspective of a young boy. He lives a seemingly normal life with his beloved parents. However, he slowly begins to uncover a deeply disturbing secret about his mother’s true nature.
Spoiler alert: Mom is hiding something monstrous. Larson will be playing the mother with a dark secret, while Gallner’s role remains under wraps for now.
The Creative Masterminds
The pedigree behind this project is absolutely unreal. Master of suspense Brian Duffield wrote the screenplay. He adapted the script from a gripping short story by Philip Fracassi. Sony Pictures clearly smelled a massive hit, aggressively snagging the worldwide rights for around $25 million during this year’s European Film Market.
The movie comes courtesy of FilmNation Entertainment’s Infrared label, J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions, and Assemble Media. Infrared is fully financing the nightmare.
The star-studded producing team includes Drew Simon, J.J. Abrams, Jon Cohen, and Jack Heller. Meanwhile, Caitlin de Lisser-Ellen, Brian Duffield, Brie Larson, and Philip Fracassi are all serving as executive producers.
