Let’s be real: pregnancy is already a biological body-horror movie. When cinema actually leans into that primal anxiety—think Rosemary’s Baby, It’s Alive, or Prevenge—the results are usually magnificent.
Now, a new contender is entering the nursery, and it looks like an absolute doozy. The official teaser for the Turkish horror feature Mutter: The Diary of a Mother has dropped. And it is safe to say this kid won’t be making it into any Gerber commercials.
The film will celebrate its World Premiere on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the AMC 19th St. East 6 in the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival’s “Escape from Tribeca“ lineup.
A Mother’s Love Knows No Bounds (or Species)
Written and directed by filmmaker Alphan Eşeli, Mutter takes the phrase “unconditional love” to a deeply disturbing extreme.
Under incredibly traumatic circumstances, a young woman named Gül gives birth to her very first child. The catch? The newborn is an entirely inhuman, grotesque, alien-like creature. But because a mother’s work is never done, the isolated single mom resolves to protect her monstrous offspring from the outside world by any bloody means necessary.
The newly released teaser is a relentless barrage of gorgeous, stomach-churning imagery. We’re talking massive bursts of blood, mutilated bodies, and a heavy dollop of psychological terror as Gül slowly slips out of sanity and into her own world of maternal monstrosity.
The Cast
The film stars a powerhouse duo of Turkish cinema talent, Hazar Ergüçlü and Guven Kirac, who look fully prepared to anchor what promises to be one of the most talked-about international genre films of the summer.
If you happen to be in New York this June and want to experience the trauma with a crowd, you have a few chances to catch the madness:
World Premiere: Saturday, June 6th @ AMC 19th St. East 6
Encore Screenings: Additional slots are scheduled for the following Sunday and Tuesday.
A Must-See Mother’s Nightmare
If you like your films drenched in postpartum dread and practical fluids, Mutter: The Diary of a Mother is required viewing. Maybe rethink bringing a gift to this particular baby shower.
