The cinematic landscape is officially kicking off with a beautifully blasphemous bang thanks to horror movies like Obsession and Backrooms. Now, director Houston Bone’s wickedly entertaining Son of Sara: Volume 1 is joining the party. We are all deeply, dearly familiar with Rosemary’s Baby and the classic “unexpectedly birthing the Antichrist” setup. However, Son of Sara: Volume One drags the premise kicking and screaming into the 21st century, boasting a deliciously campy tone that straddles the line between satanic horror and pitch-black comedy.

Following a massive wave of festival hype, Saban Films has officially acquired the U.S. distribution rights for the picture, with New York-based Visit Films handling international sales at the European Film Market.

From YouTube Streams to Demonic Screams

The film’s journey to the screen began back in October 2023, surviving a grueling shoot fueled by independent financing from Grisly Productions LLC and support from Telefilm Canada. Produced by Martine Brouillet under Bone’s Black Elephant Productions banner, the horror flick initially tore the house down when it opened the Blood in the Snow Festival in Toronto.

The festival crowd was thoroughly obsessed, particularly with lead actress Chloe Van Landschoot (From, Lune), who walked away with the festival’s prestigious award for Best Lead Performance. Van Landschoot anchors the chaos alongside a stellar ensemble that includes Tymika Tafari (Settle Down), Garrett Hnatiuk (Father’s Day), and Jane Moffat (Fahrenheit 451).

Director Houston Bone is no stranger to building massive digital audiences. He first drew critical acclaim for writing, directing, and editing the Canadian Screen Award-nominated web series Teenagers, which racked up more than 20 million views on YouTube. Moving from teen drama to demonic infants felt like the next logical step.

A Dream Come True (And a Nightmare for Everyone Else)

Reflecting on the film’s major acquisition, Bone couldn’t hide his excitement about unleashing his cinematic child onto the masses.

“After gagging Toronto at Blood in the Snow this past winter, we are excited to be working with Saban to bring our grisly horror movie, and our new little monster, to audiences across the United States. Real blood, sweat, and tears went into bringing Son of Sara: Volume 1 to the screen. It is a dream come true to be sharing this film at this scale internationally.”

Judging from the title, Son of Sara: Volume One, it sounds like this is just the beginning of the story; however, a sequel has not yet been officially confirmed.

A Summer Release

Saban Films is currently preparing to give birth to the infant from Hell when Son of Sara hits select theaters nationwide on September 11, 2026. For those who prefer to meet the Antichrist from the comfort of their own couch, it will arrive on Digital HD and VOD platforms just a few weeks later, on September 29, 2026.
