If you had “Scott Beck and Bryan Woods team up with Steven Spielberg” on your 2026 Hollywood bingo card, go ahead and collect your winnings.

The filmmaking duo behind A Quiet Place and A24’s recent theological thriller Heretic are officially heading back into the cosmos. The Hollywood Reporter dropped the news that Beck and Woods are set to write and direct a brand-new, untitled, “high-concept” science fiction movie for Universal and Amblin Entertainment. And yes, the King of Sci-Fi himself, Steven Spielberg, is producing. No pressure, boys.

From Iowa to the Dream Factory

For a couple of lifelong friends from Iowa, Beck and Woods have turned making audiences sweat into a highly lucrative art form. Their trajectory has been nothing short of a genre fan’s dream:

In 2018, they exploded onto the mainstream scene with their original spec script for A Quiet Place, teaching the world to fear stepping on creaky floorboards. Then, they steered Adam Driver through dinosaur-infested territory in Sony’s sci-fi survival flick 65. They recently scored a massive critical and commercial touchdown with the brilliant, dialogue-driven psychological maze that was A24’s Heretic.

A Thirty-Year Manifestation

The duo didn’t hide their inner fanboys when the news broke, taking to Instagram to contextualize just how much this partnership means to them:

“This new project is thirty years in the making,” the filmmakers shared. “Really proud to bring this story to life alongside Mr. Spielberg and our heroes at Amblin and Universal Pictures. Never a dull day working in the dream factory. Hope to see you in theaters soon.”

Universal is keeping the exact plot details locked away in a secure vault next to the Ark of the Covenant, but given the creative minds involved, expect something massive, original, and deeply cinematic.

As always, keep your eyes on this space. We’ll be tracking this mystery project more closely than a blind alien tracks a sound. While you wait, head to theaters now to witness Spielberg’s sci-fi feature Disclosure Day, which happens to star A Quiet Place’s Emily Blunt.
