The indie horror scene is about to get a little sharper. FX master Samuel Goodwin is officially stepping behind the camera to make his feature directorial debut with the upcoming psychological slashfest, Cut Your Teeth. According to a new report from Deadline, the production has locked down its leading lady in Riley Dandy. She is a scream queen who already proved she can handle a homicidal, axe-wielding robotic Santa Claus in the synth-drenched holiday horror hit Christmas Bloody Christmas.
Horror Royalty
If you need any more convincing that this project is one to keep on your radar, look no further than the producer’s chair. The film is being produced by indie genre royalty Aaron Moorhead, one-half of the brilliant directorial duo behind mind-bending films such as Spring, The Endless, Synchronic, and Something in the Dirt. Not to mention Marvel’s Moon Knight and Loki. Having Moorhead’s name attached means we can likely expect something much more cerebral and deeply unsettling.
Joining Dandy are Arthur Langlie (A Complete Unknown), Oliver Stark (Fox’s 9-1-1), and Madeline Weinstein. It’s a stellar, eclectic ensemble that ensures when the screaming starts, the acting will actually hold up.
Who is Samuel Goodwin?
Samuel Goodwin‘s technical artistry in special effects has left a distinct mark across major sci-fi and genre productions. He brought Project Hail Mary to life. Beyond his work in deep space, his top practical effects credits include A Quiet Place: Day One and the psychological thriller Hold Your Breath.
A Party Gone Wrong
Filming is set to begin this summer amid the humid, inherently chaotic backdrop of Florida. Cut Your Teeth follows a seemingly picture-perfect engagement-party weekend. However, because this is a horror film, things don’t stay nice for long. The celebratory vibes quickly spiral completely out of control. When a deeply buried secret betrayal is exposed. Unfortunately for the characters, paradise turns into a claustrophobic, paranoid nightmare. Think The Celebration meets Bodies Bodies Bodies, but with a distinctly sun-baked, Floridian sense of dread.
As the project ramps up production in the Sunshine State over the coming months. We’ll keep you posted as more details emerge.
