While director Tim Miller (Deadpool) is currently keeping the official title of his next sci-fi thriller quiet, John Wick star Keanu Reeves just gave the ultimate elevator pitch.
When Collider caught up with the internet’s favorite action icon to ask what exactly lured him into Miller’s mysterious new sandbox, Reeves didn’t mince words. His glorious five-word breakdown?
“Sharks. Time machine. Groundhog Day.”
Honestly, Keanu, you had us at sharks.
The Loop: A Caribbean Bloodbath
Reeves’ delightfully blunt synopsis lines up perfectly with the chaotic plot details that surfaced earlier this year. The untitled Warner Bros. project centers on a smuggler. He finds himself completely marooned in the middle of a deadly double-cross while pulling a job in the Caribbean Sea.
If a botched heist wasn’t stressful enough, the poor guy wakes up surrounded by a floating graveyard of bodies. And heavily armed hostile mercenaries, and a swarm of ravenous, bloodthirsty sharks. The ultimate kicker? He’s trapped in a relentless time loop, forced to live, die, and scramble to break the vicious cycle over and over again. Think Edge of Tomorrow meets The Shallows, fueled by pure adrenaline.
The Crew of the Doomed Vessel
This nightmare is penned by Ian Shorr (Splinter, Infinite). To help Reeves navigate the shark-infested temporal anomaly, Miller has assembled an eclectic, heavy-hitting supporting cast. Keanu Reeves is joined by Callie Cooke (The Stranger), Stefan Kapičić (Deadpool), and Steven Waddington (Sleepy Hollow). Nicholas Duvernay (The White Lotus) and Abraham Popoola (Cruella) round out the cast along with Anastasia Safonov and veteran stuntman/actor Bobby Holland Hanton (Thor: Love and Thunder).
With Warner Bros. backing the madness and Tim Miller at the helm, this is shaping up to be the most delightfully unhinged survival story. We’ll keep our eyes on the water and update you as soon as this time-bending aquatic nightmare gets an official title.
