Pack your bug spray and lock your cabin doors, counselors—it’s finally time to go back to summer camp!

After more than a decade of copyright battles, the Friday the 13th franchise has officially returned. Peacock and A24 have just unleashed the highly anticipated first teaser trailer for “Crystal Lake,” the upcoming prequel series that takes us back to where the slasher mythos began.

The eight-episode series is officially set to premiere on October 15, 2026. The teaser gives horror fans a beautifully shot preview of the lively camp before the machetes start swinging.

A Camp That’s Actually… Open?

One of the most striking details about the teaser is its atmosphere. Instead of throwing us into the night, the teaser sees Camp Crystal Lake looking like a functioning summer camp. Kids are splashing in the water, counselors are smiling, and for a fleeting moment, it looks like a place you’d actually pay to send your children.

In all of Friday the 13th’s camp lore, we rarely see the camp actually operating. Aside from Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives, most of the movies in the franchise involve counselors trying to rebuild an abandoned, derelict site, or horny teenagers using the empty cabins for a weekend getaway.

By grounding the series in a bustling, living community, showrunner Brad Caleb Kane (It: Welcome to Derry) is giving the setting some real, devastating stakes.

A 1970s Mixtape of Genre and Madness

Rather than sticking strictly to the 1950s timeline established in the original 1980 film, “Crystal Lake” is shaping up to be the ultimate autumn watch. This is just one of several “upcoming Friday the 13th projects. Stay tuned (learn more here).
