The Twisted Childhood Universe is carving out a new nightmare, Pinocchio: Unstrung, and this time, Jiminy Cricket is definitely not your friend.
Ahead of its theatrical drop this week, Altitude has released a brand-new clip titled “Blood in the Water.” The snippet showcases a dark, twisted side of Geppetto. One that will permanently shatter any fond childhood memories of the classic fable.
He’s a Very Bad (Wooden) Boy
The movie debuted at Raindance Film Festival. There, it locked down four major award nominations. Pinocchio: Unstrung stars horror veteran Richard Brake (3 From Hell, Barbarian) as Geppetto. He gifts a handcrafted wooden puppet to his grandson. Clearly having never watched a single horror movie in his life, the kid eagerly introduces his new marionette to the real world.
However, things go off the rails fast. Pinocchio takes his desire to become a “real, good boy” a little too far. He decides that the quickest way to achieve moral purity is by violently butchering anyone he deems “bad.”
Horror Royalty Joins the Chaos
To guarantee maximum sleep deprivation, the filmmakers tapped horror royalty Robert Englund (the iconic Freddy Krueger himself) to voice a demonic, twisted incarnation of Jiminy Cricket. Putting the master of nightmares in charge of a killer puppet’s moral compass is a stroke of pure, unhinged genius. Expect a heavy dose of practical gore, splintered limbs, and pitch-black comedy.
