When it comes to Hollywood stunt work, John Koyama hasn’t just seen it all—he’s probably jumped off it, hit it, crashed into it, or directed it.
Known around set simply as “Koy,” the stunt coordinator, assistant director, and actor boasts an eye-watering resume with over 130 film and TV credits to his name. We’re talking massive, multi-million-dollar spectacles: Twisters, Furious 7, Man of Steel, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Tropic Thunder, Daredevil, and Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon saga. And there’s no sign of him slowing down any time soon (thankfully).
Most recently, Koy has been the mastermind keeping the chaos grounded on Prime Video’s ultra-violent superhero hit “The Boys“ and its spinoff “Gen V.” Having already bagged two Emmy wins for his jaw-dropping coordination, he’s currently in the running for a third nomination thanks to his work on the flagship Supe series.
I sat down with Koy to break down his legendary career in action, the art of crafting diabolical action sequences, and what it takes to pull off the absolute wild mayhem of “The Boys.” We also dive into his history, and he even gives some advice for people wanting to enter the stunt field.
