It turns out the undead aren’t just relentless—they’re immensely lucrative. In an eye-watering five-year, $500 million licensing pact, AMC Global Media and Netflix have joined forces to turn both streaming platforms into the ultimate co-exclusive homes for The Walking Dead universe starting in 2027, Variety reports.
The blockbuster deal covers a massive 371 episodes across the entire flagship franchise. That means subscribers on both services won’t just get the flagship original series—they’re getting all six spinoffs, including:
Fear the Walking Dead
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon
The Walking Dead: Dead City
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live
The Walking Dead: World Beyond
Tales of The Walking Dead
Expanding the Herd Globally
While Netflix has held the exclusive U.S. streaming rights to the main series since 2011, this new arrangement unlocks a few major firsts. Most notably, AMC+ will finally stream the original Walking Dead series for the first time starting early next year.
Meanwhile, Netflix is expanding its global reach, bringing the full, unabridged zombie catalog to international markets including the U.K., Italy, Australia, and New Zealand.
Streaming Giants Share the Wealth
“Audiences have discovered and loved The Walking Dead on Netflix for nearly 15 years and the show continues to attract new fans,” said Lori Conkling, Vice President of Licensing at Netflix. “We’re excited to partner with AMC Global Media to continue to expand that access to more audiences around the world and bring the entirety of The Walking Dead Universe to Netflix.”
AMC Global Media CEO Kristin Dolan echoed the excitement over the half-billion-dollar team-up:
“This deal creates a global destination for this universe—all shows, all episodes—making the franchise more accessible than ever to fans around the world,” Dolan stated. “In addition, the co-exclusive agreement allows us to bring the original series to AMC+ for the first time early next year. Netflix has been an important partner in making The Walking Dead one of the most successful franchises in the history of entertainment.”
Whether you’re looking to binge Rick Grimes’ iconic origin story or catch up on Daryl Dixon’s European vacation, surviving the apocalypse is about to get a whole lot easier—no matter which app you open.
