What’s better than an alternate-history 1879 Western where humans and dinosaurs build civilization together? Adding one of the most explosive tight ends in NFL history to the mix. San Francisco 49ers superstar George Kittle is making his acting debut in Dinosaurs of the Wild West. It’s the wildly ambitious eight-part cinematic series from Australian director Luke Sparke (Primitive War). However, Kittle isn’t just showing up for a quick cameo. Kittle is playing an original character who gets his very own dinosaur to ride into the sunset (or into battle).
A Stacked Frontier Ensemble
Joining the All-Pro tight end on the prehistoric plains are a few familiar genre faces. Jesse Kove (Cobra Kai, Martin Kove (The Karate Kid, Cobra Kai), and Rachael Pizzolatto (MythBusters Jr.) also saddle up.
The production is currently auditioning actors worldwide for its three principal hero roles following a massive, viral response to the project’s concept.
“George is someone who discovered Primitive War on his own and talked about it publicly, and that’s what brought us together,” explains writer-director Luke Sparke. “His passion for this kind of storytelling is completely authentic, and that energy is exactly what the frontier needs.”
Tombstone Meets House of the Dragon
PDinosaurs of the Wild West imagines a gritty 19th century where Brontosaurs haul entire towns across the dusty plains. Raptors replace horses for outlaws. And Pterosaurs dominate the skies.
Bypassing the traditional Hollywood studio machine, Sparke and his team are bringing the series directly to fans via a Kickstarter campaign. Which has already racked up over 20 million viral views and earned a coveted “Projects We Love” badge.
“We’re past the point of asking permission,” Sparke says. “The audience has already shown interest in extraordinary numbers. This is a new way of making ambitious content… If enough people pre-order it, we make it. It’s that simple.”
How to Back the Frontier
Currently sitting past 60% of its funding goal with just 10 days remaining, the campaign closes on August 7th. As of right now, pre-ordering through Kickstarter is the only guaranteed way fans will get to watch the finished series.
