Get ready to dust off your flannel and crank the cassette player. The Horror Collective and BloodStream are teaming up to bring Douglas Forrester’s acclaimed supernatural thriller Carry the Darkness straight to genre fans this summer.
High-School Outsiders vs. Heavy-Metal Hysteria
Transporting audiences back to the height of 1993, Carry the Darkness centers on Travis Baldwin, a misunderstood teenage metalhead trapped in the stifling chokehold of the Satanic Panic. When a malevolent, unseen entity begins tearing through his quiet community, local paranoia takes hold. And Travis quickly becomes Public Enemy number one.
Hunted by a pitchfork-wielding town while the true predator roams free, Travis must band together with his inner circle to survive the escalating madness before the town’s collective hysteria swallows them whole.
Fusing supernatural dread, coming-of-age angst, and small-town conspiracy, Carry the Darkness serves as an atmospheric, nostalgia-soaked love letter to an era defined by The X-Files, Twin Peaks, and midnight heavy metal records.
The Cast
Anchored by a standout lead performance from Joel Meyers, the ensemble cast includes Jaden Gant, Helen Laser, Hollis Fox, Autumn Breaud, and David Boldt, featuring an eerie original score composed by Travis Bacon.
The Filmmakers Weigh In
“Through its haunting visuals and acid-tongued nostalgia, Carry the Darkness reinvents the small-town horror genre—giving voice to the alienated while delivering pulse-pounding dread.” The Horror Collective’s Shaked Berenson states.
According to the director, “The film draws as much from the defining film and television of the early 1990s as it does from the era’s unsettling non-fiction. At its core, Carry the Darkness explores the terrifying yet familiar collision of teenage isolation and societal panic. My goal was to create an ominous thriller with a big beating heart at its core.”
