Action hero Jason Statham is back doing what he does best: cracking skulls and fighting to clear his reputation. Lionsgate has set the U.S. theatrical release for Mutiny, a lean, hard-hitting action thriller scheduled to hit theaters nationwide later this month. Armed with a hard-R rating for strong, bloody violence and pervasive language, the film promises ninety-five minutes of pure, uninterrupted adrenaline.
The Mission
The story follows Cole Reed (Statham), an ex-special forces operative turned private security asset. Soon, he finds himself trapped in an absolute nightmare. After witnessing the targeted assassination of his billionaire boss, Cole becomes the primary fall guy for the hit. Framed for murder and pursued by authorities and shadowy executioners alike, Cole goes off the grid. He mounts a ruthless one-person crusade. His desperate search for the true killers forces him aboard a massive, isolated cargo ship. There he soon discovers that hisboss’ss murder was merely the catalyst for a far grander, world-threatening global conspiracy hidden right beneath the surface.
An Action Expert and an International Cast
Helmed by French action veteran Jean-François Richet, who previously proved his knack for tight, pulse-pounding survival thrillers with Plane and Blood Father. Mutiny promises to deliver claustrophobic set pieces, tactical close-quarters combat, and heavy-hitting hand-to-hand violence. The screenplay, penned by Lindsay Michel alongside Plane writer J.P. Davis, surrounds Statham with a formidable international cast including Annabelle Wallis, Roland Møller, and Adrian Lester.
The movie is produced under the MadRiver Pictures and Punch Palace banners by Marc Butan alongside Statham himself. The Lionsgate feature leans heavily into classic”90s-style siege dynamics. By trapping its unstoppable lead inside the rust-coated corridors of an ocean vessel, the film strips away easy escapes, forcing Statham’s character to fight his way through wave after wave of mercenaries to expose the truth.
