Disney+ has ordered a pilot for “Spaceship Earth,” a series inspired by EPCOT’s legendary dark ride. Casting is underway, though no names have been announced so far.
From Ride to the Small Screen
Rather than a quiet, slow-moving tram ride, the show is swinging for a high-concept, multi-timeline apocalypse story, Variety reports.
The official logline reads:
“When a mission to avert an imminent global cataclysm goes awry, a small band of teenagers from Earth’s past and future must join forces to confront a threat as vast and mysterious as time itself.”
The History
Since EPCOT opened its gates in 1982, Spaceship Earth has served as the park’s visual anchor and spiritual heart, housing a beloved journey through the evolution of human communication inside an 18-story structural marvel.
Behind the Scenes
Showrunner Jason Fuchs (Wonder Woman, Argylle) leads the project via Five Ten Productions. Michael Waldron (Loki, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) is Executive Producing under his Anomaly Pictures banner. Lee Toland Krieger (Shadow and Bone, You) has signed on to direct the pilot and executive produce, with 20th Television producing.
If ordered to series, “Spaceship Earth“ will join Disney’s ongoing ride-to-screen translation pipeline. This strategy gave birth to the $4.5 billion Pirates of the Caribbean franchise alongside recent adaptations like Jungle Cruise and the Haunted Mansion.
