What if watching a horror series wasn’t just a passive experience, but a high-stakes group exercise in survival? That is the exact premise behind “Shadow Peak.” It is an innovative interactive horror project born from a cross-continental collaboration between Trail 3 Films and Gecko Films.

Instead of letting viewers passively watch behind their screens, this experimental series hands the steering wheel directly to the public. Every episode is a nerve-wracking exercise in majority rule.

One Story, One Choice, Zero Individual Rewinds

However, unlike traditional choose-your-own-adventure media where each viewer branches off into their own personal story bubble, Shadow Peak operates on raw democracy. The series drops new episodes every 48 hours, with each chapter ending on a cliffhanger that offers two stark options. The entire fanbase votes, and whichever choice snags the most votes becomes the official, unshakeable canon for the next episode. There are no individual rewinds or alternate timelines; the entire community must live with the bloody consequences of the majority’s vote.

From Instagram Experiment to Full-Blown Multi-Platform Nightmare

This wild narrative experiment originally proved its concept through a bite-sized, six-episode pilot season on Instagram. With episodes lasting just sixty seconds, the creators wanted to test if modern scrollers would actually care enough to debate and vote. The response was overwhelming, giving rise to an extremely passionate fanbase that argued over motives, agonized over decisions, and closely tracked character arcs. That massive success laid the groundwork for a significantly bigger, bolder Season 2.

Expanding the Map with Higher Stakes

Filmed on location in Auckland, New Zealand, Shadow Peak Season 2 ramps up the scale dramatically. The new season expands the world into a 12-episode arc, with longer runtimes of three to five minutes per chapter. Premiering on Sunday, August 30, 2026, across YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok, the series will stick to its strict 48-hour release schedule. With over 2,000 possible narrative pathways built into the framework, even the show’s creators are discovering the fate of the main protagonist, Casey, right alongside the viewers.

Bridging the Gap Between Film and Gaming

The terror doesn’t stop when the screen goes dark. Between episode drops, fans are encouraged to dig into character backstories, share theories, and debate upcoming choices across social media, drawing heavily on the immersive community dynamics usually reserved for video games.

Trail 3 Films founder and producer Sarah Dawes emphasizes that the goal goes far beyond just getting views. It is about building the audience directly into the story’s DNA. As this participatory horror universe launches its second season, one thing is certain: Casey’s survival is entirely in your hands.

“The exciting- and slightly terrifying- thing for us as the creators is that we don’t have complete control over how the story will unfold. We’ve created the world, the characters, and choices, but the community ultimately decides the fate of our main protagonist, Casey. They influence her reactions, her decisions, and her motivations, shaping who she becomes as the story progresses.”
