After years of corporate red tape and cinematic blue-balling, Marvel Studios mastermind Kevin Feige has finally made it official. The X-Men are officially crash-landing into the MCU in 2028. It marks the first dedicated mutant feature since Disney swallowed Fox whole. Rescuing Marvel’s stepchildren from development hell and giving them a key to the house.

A Fresh Batch of Stars

Rather than recycling the vintage crew, Marvel is handing the keys to the Xavier Institute to a whole new class. Sadie Sink steps into the shoes of Jean Grey, while Kit Connor suits up as the field leader, Cyclops. Samara Weaving stars as Emma Frost, paired alongside Maya Boyd’s weather-warping Storm. Inde Navarrette plays Rogue—Dafne Keen (pictured) steps in as X-23. Christopher Abbott takes the role of Professor X. And Adam Driver brings his trademark brooding intensity to the genetic mad scientist, Mr. Sinister, Variety reports.

Breadcrumbs and Billion-Dollar Teases

While this reboot serves as the proper flagship launch, Marvel hasn’t exactly been subtle about dropping hints. Since Fox’s franchise went out with a quiet whimper via New Mutants and Dark Phoenix, the MCU has been laying the groundwork through multiverse appearances. Patrick Stewart brought his shiny dome to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Kelsey Grammer made the end-credits surprise in The Marvels. X-Men ’97 reminded everyone on Disney+ why animated spandex never goes out of style. Then came Deadpool & Wolverine, which casually pulled in a billion dollars. It proved that audiences still have an appetite for mutant mayhem that is alive, well, and wildly profitable.

One Last Nostalgia Victory Lap

Before the new class takes over the classroom in 2028, the legacy veterans are getting one final, chaotic curtain call. The upcoming Avengers: Doomsday is loading up the multiverse bus with legacy icons. It’s bringing back Stewart, Grammer, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Alan Cummings, and Rebecca Romijn. Throw in Channing Tatum finally getting to toss exploding playing cards as Gambit, and Marvel is making sure the old guard gets a proper send-off before the new generation officially inherits the Earth.

While you wait for the premiere of the X-Men reboot on May 5, 2028, watch Avengers: Doomsday in theaters on December 18, 2026. Watch the trailer below.
