In a crossover event that sounds like a mad scientist’s fever dream, horror heavyweights Blumhouse, Atomic Monster, and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot are officially teaming up. Netflix has greenlit “Sid & Zoey,” an eight-episode supernatural young-adult mystery series that promises equal parts angst, anomaly, and adrenaline. With Jason Blum, James Wan, and J.J. Abrams steering the executive producer ship, the show brings an absurd amount of cinematic genre muscle to the small screen.
Metropolitan Chaos Meets Small-Town Cosmic Horror
The story kicks off with Sid, a thoroughly amoral, wildly sophisticated, and dangerously charming teenager exiled from New York City. His destination is a picture-perfect Mississippi town where his mother grew up. Unfortunately, he’s forced to bunk with the local police chief’s family. Naturally, that household features Zoey: the chief’s sharp-witted, punk-rock daughter. And she seems custom-built to utterly despise him. The mismatched duo is quickly dragged into a dark, hidden underworld lurking beneath the town’s idyllic facade. Sid and Zoey are forced to solve a life-threatening supernatural mystery while trying not to murder each other.
A Writing Room Loaded With Heavy Hitters
Behind the cameras, the creative lineage is just as potent. The series was created by Jon Kasdan (Willow), who is co-writing the show alongside “Ozark” veteran John Shiban, Deadline reports. Kasdan and Shiban are also stepping up as dual showrunners, ensuring the narrative seamlessly bridges snarky high school drama and high-stakes tension. Netflix hasn’t set a release date just yet, but with this much horror nobility attached, expect the streaming giant to roll out the red carpet—or the blood-stained rug—very soon.
In the meantime, Netflix has plenty of young-adult series worthy of adding to your watchlist. That includes “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” “Dead Boy Detectives,” and “Lock & Key.”
