Prime Video has officially found its cybernetic law enforcer. Dan Stevens has been tapped to star as the titular hero in Amazon’s upcoming live-action “RoboCop“ television series. Originally teased shortly after Amazon acquired MGM and tapped into its deep library of classic IP, the project has now officially snagged a full eight-episode order from the streamer, Variety reports.
Dead or Alive, He’s Back on Duty
The series delivers a modern update to the iconic sci-fi premise. The story begins when a massive tech conglomerate convinces a desperate city to deploy a powerful robotic enforcer in its police force. The high-tech weapon is implanted with the consciousness of a beloved, fallen officer, played by Stevens. This sets the stage for a tragic, action-packed battle between corporate control and human identity.
A Genre Powerhouse Behind the Badge
Stevens has been on an absolute tear across film and television in recent years. After breaking out in “Downton Abbey” and earning rave reviews for his performance in FX’s “Legion,” he has become a staple in modern genre cinema with roles in Cuckoo and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Stevens is also burning up the small screen. He starred in the third season of AAMC’s “The Terror” and Netflix’s “Zero Day,” and has now joined the cast of “Dexter: Resurrection.”
A Stacked Team Behind the Armor
The “RoboCop ” series is being spearheaded by writer, executive producer, and showrunner Peter Ocko. Genre titan James Wan executive produces via Blumhouse Atomic Monster alongside Michael Clear and Rob Hackett. Danielle Bozzone co-executive produces.
Crucially, the series honors its roots by bringing on Michael Miner and Ed Neumeier, the original co-creators and co-writers of the 1987 sci-fi masterpiece, as executive producers for the Amazon MGM Studios production.
