Investigation Discovery has officially set the stage for the return of its gripping true-crime series “TOXIC,” led by journalist and advocate Elizabeth Chambers.
Returning this fall, the show continues its uncompromising exploration of unhealthy relationship dynamics. It details control and toxic romance- so-called “love” that can rapidly degrade into long-lasting trauma or catastrophic violence. Blending investigative precision with survivor advocacy, Chambers guides audiences through harrowing real-life cases. In order to highlight the critical warning signs that are often overlooked before it is too late.
The new season officially premieres on Tuesday, September 15 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on ID, with weekly episodes streaming simultaneously on HBO Max.
First-Hand Accounts and National Cases
The upcoming season broadens its scope by examining complex cases from across the United States through emotional, direct interviews with survivors, grieving family members, and loved ones. By combining personal accounts with expert analysis, the series offers a comprehensive look at the multi-faceted nature of intimate partner violence and domestic abuse.
The premiere episode, titled “Don’t Go Home,” focuses on Jenn Holman’s tumultuous relationship with local bad boy Jesse Winnick. Despite explicit warnings from friends and family to stay away, an undeniable connection pulled Jenn into a volatile dynamic. One that ultimately escalated into unspeakable tragedy.
A Season Focused on Accountability and Survivor Voices
Throughout the new run of episodes, “TOXIC“ tackles a diverse array of high-profile and deeply insidious cases. Future investigations include a deep dive into allegations of coercion and systemic abuse surrounding a preacher within the Independent Fundamentalist Baptist Church network. There’s also the story of a young woman subjected to severe violations within a marriage to a significantly older man. It also features a retrospective on the tragic 2010 murder of University of Virginia lacrosse player Yeardley Love by her boyfriend on the eve of her graduation.
