Two decades after terrorizing audiences with flesh-eating livestock, writer-director Jonathan King’s 2006 New Zealand cult classic Black Sheep is officially getting a long-awaited sequel. To celebrate, the film’s first image has been released.
Titled Black Sheeps, the upcoming creature feature is set to make its World Premiere at the prestigious Sitges Film Festival this October. The return to New Zealand’s most successful horror export promises another wild round of genetically modified animal mayhem. Picking up twenty years after the original barnyard massacre.
A New Outbreak in the Shadow of the Past
The sequel reunites King with lead actor Nathan Meister, who reprises his role as the severely traumatized Henry Oldfield. The narrative centers on a young scientist who becomes convinced that a lethal new pathogen threatens the general population. Her high-stakes investigation leads her straight back to her hometown. The community remains in the shadow of the remote sheep farm where the horrific events of the original film unfolded.
Practical Monster Mayhem Powered by Wētā Workshop
King and Meister are officially reuniting with Sir Richard Taylor’s Academy Award-winning effects house, Wētā Workshop. The legendary crew behind the gnarly creature designs and physical gore of the 2006 original is returning to bring a fresh batch of mutant, bloodthirsty ovine monsters to life on screen.
King and Grainger also produce alongside James Partridge and Samantha Braun of Terror-Fi Films. Black Sheeps features an executive producing team that includes Richard Fletcher of Libertine Pictures, Philippa Campbell, Ari Harrison, and Jasmin McSweeney from Umbrella Entertainment.
