Just when you thought it was safe to return to the North Atlantic, Netflix is unleashing a chilling new creature-thriller that proves the ocean holds far worse than mere wildlife.

The streaming powerhouse has released the official trailer for “Below.” It’s the six-episode coastal nightmare starring Josh Hartnett (Oppenheimer, Trap), Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things), and Mackenzie Davis (Station Eleven).

The official trailer has now arrived. It teases a happy family reunion that turns into sheer terror after an iceberg arrives and a creature is unleashed. Watch it below.

Saltwater Terror Strikes an Isolated Village

Filmed on location in St. John’s, Newfoundland, “Below” immerses viewers in a tight-knit seaside community. One where deep-sea wildlife suddenly develops a bloodthirsty appetite. At the center of the storm is Calvin Penney, played by Hartnett. He’s a big-hearted fisherman still haunted by his father’s mysterious death decades earlier. When a monstrous aquatic entity begins terrorizing his hometown, Calvin vows to protect his son, Wade (Heaton), and keep his community intact. To stop the carnage, Calvin teams up with a visiting marine researcher played by Davis. Together, they embark on a dangerous mission. They must confront the beast and unearth the island’s deeply buried secrets before the entire town is dragged into the depths.

A Powerhouse Cast and Production Team

Supporting Hartnett, Heaton, and Davis in their fight for survival is a talented ensemble. It includes Ruby Stokes (Lockwood & Co.), Kaleb Horn, Rohan Campbell (Halloween Ends), and Willow Kean. Conceptualized by creator, showrunner, and executive producer Jesse McKeown, the series is co-executive produced by Hartnett alongside Jessica Rhoades, Chris Hatcher, Jamie Childs, Louise Sutton, and Sharon Hall.

Combining small-town paranoia with visceral aquatic dread, “Below promises to be a standout entry for fans of maritime horror. Mark your calendars, because all six episodes of “Below crash onto Netflix on October 8.
