Filmmaker Nicholas Pineda is set to unleash his feature directorial debut, Infirmary, on Shudder’s streaming service following its world premiere at Dances With Films NY this past January.
Combining bodycam video, surveillance feeds, and claustrophobic atmospheric dread, the indie film aims to reignite a deep-seated fear of medical institutions.
A Night Shift in Hell
The story follows Edward. He’s a young security guard embarking on his first graveyard shift at the long-abandoned Wilshire Infirmary. Paired with Lester, a retiring guard whose erratic behavior immediately sets off alarm bells, Edward quickly realizes the assignment is far from routine. When a mysterious intruder breaches the facility and vanishes into thin air, Lester ventures into the dark, labyrinthine hallways alone. And disappears without a trace. Stranded and isolated as the asylum’s violent history closes in, Edward becomes the target of malicious entities while his own mind begins to unravel.
A Fresh Lens on Found Footage
Written by Katy Krauland and co-produced with Pineda, Infirmary offers a character-driven spin on the found-footage subgenre. By weaving together security camera feeds, body-worn cameras, and immersive POV perspectives, the film pays homage to classic horror while injecting fresh energy into the format.

The tense ensemble piece stars Paul Syre, Mark Anthony Williams, Danielle Kennedy, and Corinna Wagner-Smith.
