Tubi is officially kicking off its Terror on Tubi event, no longer just a Halloween event, with a hilarious, blood-soaked twist on the slasher genre. The streaming platform has unleashed the official trailer for Buzzkill. It’s a brand-new Tubi Original feature slated to premiere later this month.
Directed by Jem Garrard (R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead) and written by Suzanne Keilly (Slumber Party Massacre), the film blends sharp horror-comedy with slasher mayhem, promising a wild ride.
A Tipsy Final Girl Against a Vengeful Killer
The nightmare unfolds when a group of sorority sisters finds themselves locked in a frantic fight for their lives against a relentless killer. Nora stands between the sisters and total slaughter. The notorious party girl who discovers an absurdly twisted secret to surviving the night. The more intoxicated she gets, the more her foggy, alcohol-fueled memories reveal vital clues about the murderer’s true identity.
In a desperate race against time and her own liver, Nora must piece together the mystery. All before her next vodka soda proves to be her absolute last.
Subverting Slasher Conventions with a Killer Ensemble
Leading the chaotic survival story is Siena Agudong (Carrie), starring alongside Brec Bassinger (Final Destination Bloodlines) and viral star Aliyah’s Interlude (English Teacher).
He noted Garrard praised Keilly’s fresh take on horror tropes. He noted how refreshing it was to center the story around a protagonist who breaks every rule in the traditional horror playbook. Rather than relying on the stoic, hyper-prepared final girl of classic cinema, Nora is gloriously ill-equipped and constantly screwing up. Yet, somehow remains deeply charming and impossible not to root for.
Garrard told The Hollywood Reporter, “I loved Suzanne’s script and was excited by her spin on the slasher genre. Nora isn’t your traditional final girl. She screws up constantly and is spectacularly ill-equipped for what’s happening around her, but we never stop rooting for her.
“Siena [Agudong] has incredible comic instincts and brings so much heart to Nora. I couldn’t have asked for a better ensemble. Everyone brought such a distinct energy to their character, and I’m excited for audiences to meet this lovable, dysfunctional sorority.”
Buzzkill is poised to be unmissable when it hits Tubi’s free streaming service on September 25.
