The upcoming “Far Cry“ television adaptation at FX continues to expand its massive, star-studded ensemble. Variety has confirmed that acclaimed actors Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin), Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight), Hamish Linklater (Midnight Mass), Sam Spruell (Alien: Earth), and Jamie Demetriou (The Afterparty) have officially signed on for the first season of the video game adaptation.
These impressive new additions join series lead and co-creator Rob Mac, along with fellow co-stars Lizzy Caplan and Steve Buscemi.
An Anthology Format Driven by Visionary Creators
Creative powerhouses Noah Hawley and Rob Mac spearhead the adaptation. While specific storyline and character details remain under lock and key, reportedly the adaptation will echo the narrative of Ubisoft’s blockbuster game franchise. Operating as an anthology series, each season will introduce a completely new cast and a fresh location. It will also feature a unique high-stakes conflict, capturing the unpredictability and chaotic survival elements that defined the gaming phenomenon.
A Powerhouse Production Team Behind the Chaos
Set to stream internationally across FX, Hulu, and Disney+, “Far Cry” is backed by a formidable team of executive producers. Mac executive produces under his More Better Productions banner. Hawley will executive produce via 26 Keys as part of his extensive overall deal with FX and Disney Entertainment Television. FX Productions produces it.
Gaming Adaptations are a Hit
Many other new series adaptations of gaming franchises are in the works, including “God of War” on Prime Video and “Mass Effect.” Netflix is gearing up for “Horizon Zero Dawn” and “Gears of War.” And Curtis “50 Cents” Jackson is adapting “Payday.” And get this: horror heavy hitter Mike Flanagan is in talks to join Henry Cavill’s “Warhammer 40,000” adaptation.
