Filmmaker Nicholas Pineda has officially unleashed his feature directorial debut, Infirmary, now streaming on Shudder following its world premiere at Dances With Films NY. Fusing bodycam footage, surveillance feeds, and claustrophobic dread, this relentless indie horror aims to reignite a deep-seated terror of medical institutions.
A Graveyard Shift From Hell
The story follows Edward, a young security guard embarking on his very first overnight shift at the long-abandoned Wilshire Infirmary. Paired with Lester, a retiring guard whose erratic behavior instantly raises red flags, Edward quickly realizes the night will be anything but routine. When an unknown intruder breaches the facility and vanishes into thin air, Lester ventures alone into the dark, labyrinthine hallways—and disappears without a trace. Stranded as the asylum’s violent history awakens around him, Edward must survive malicious entities as his own sanity begins to fracture.
A Fresh Vision for Found Footage
Co-written by Katy Krauland and co-produced alongside Pineda, Infirmary aims to deliver a distinct, character-driven spin on found-footage horror. By seamlessly weaving together body-worn cameras, security monitors, and visceral POV angles, the film pays homage to classic subgenre tropes while injecting terrifying new energy into the format.
Where to Watch
The nail-biting ensemble thriller stars Paul Syre, Mark Anthony Williams, Danielle Kennedy, and Corinna Wagner-Smith. Horror fans can brave the darkened halls of Infirmarytoday, now streaming exclusively on Shudder just in time for spooky season.
