A chilling new Canadian horror-western, Last Moon, written and directed by Brandon D. Cox, is set for a November release after premiering at the Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival.

Filming Authentic Period Scenery in Ontario

The production team filmed the entire feature on location at a farm in Powassan, Ontario. The isolated farm provided versatile scenery and the perfect rustic atmosphere. The crew built an authentic wooden cabin directly on the land for major scenes. Furthermore, actors wore genuine period clothing and used historic weapons throughout production.

Shooting Challenges in the Summer Heat

Filming in a farmer’s field in midsummer posed serious physical challenges. However, working outdoors in natural elements maintained authentic historical realism across every scene. Director Brandon D. Cox emphasized making the environment feel completely real and tactile. The rustic setting therefore enhances the claustrophobic dread surrounding the isolated family farm.

A Dark Monster Story on the Border

The story takes place in the 1890s along the Canada-United States border. A former bounty hunter relies on quiet isolation to escape his violent past alongside his daughter. Unfortunately, a monstrous creature lurking inside the surrounding woods threatens their peaceful lives. The father must reluctantly return to brutal violence to protect his family from the beast.

Talented Cast and Broader Release

Actor Shawn Doyle anchors the emotional story alongside co-star Colin Cunningham. Lora Burke, Morgan Bedard, Kayla Dumont, and Mina Borody complete the ensemble.

Following its initial festival debut at Cinéfest Sudbury, the film prepares for home audiences. Horror enthusiasts can stream or purchase the terrifying historical creature feature, Last Moon, starting November 17, 2026. Check out the teaser trailer below. The full trailer will be released soon.
